How to use

This calculator uses the amortization formula M = P × [r(1+r)^n] / [(1+r)^n − 1], where M is the fixed monthly payment, P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is the total number of payments (years × 12). It is the standard formula behind car loans, personal loans and private student loans. A key fact the table makes visible: in the early years most of your payment goes to interest, not principal. On a $20,000 loan at 8.5% over 5 years, the first payment sends $141.67 to interest and only $268.66 to principal. By the final payment, those numbers are reversed. The full amortization table shows exactly when that crossover happens.

Steps

  1. Enter the total loan amount in "Loan amount ($)" — for example 20000.
  2. Set the "Annual rate (%)" from your lender's quote — for example 8.5.
  3. Choose the "Term (years)" — 5 years is 60 monthly payments.
  4. Read the monthly payment, total interest, and the full amortization table below.

FAQ

Why does my payment barely reduce my balance?

Amortization is designed that way: interest accrues on the remaining balance, so early payments cover mostly interest. As the balance shrinks, more of each payment goes to principal.

Can I pay off a loan faster?

Yes. Any extra amount applied to principal shortens the schedule and reduces total interest. Compare the interest saved by simulating a shorter term or lower rate.

Does this include fees or insurance?

No. This is principal and interest only. Add origination fees, insurance or taxes separately if your lender charges them.

What rate should I use?

Use the APR quoted by your lender. APR includes some upfront costs, giving a closer estimate than the bare interest rate.

Is Loan Calculator (EMI) really free?

Yes. No account or credits are required, and no paywall blocks the task. Browser, device, and stated file-size limits still apply. Ads may appear only when configured and enabled after the required consent signal.

How should I compare Loan Calculator (EMI) with other options?

Compare supported inputs, output quality, file-size limits, browser compatibility, and privacy terms using the same sample. Provider features and terms can change; check their current documentation.

How accurate is Loan Calculator (EMI)?

Results are educational, not professional financial advice — confirm big decisions with a qualified advisor.
